Tom and I had been chatting about doing a shoot together for quite a while, and we discussed a few ideas for what would benefit Toms image library. We decided a studio session would be an interesting addition to the action shots Tom currently has, and by incorporating his equipment supplied by his sponsors we could also show Toms appreciation for the equipment and support they offer him.
At the time of shooting Tom had a broken knuckle from a crash during a race, a race that even tho he was on a bike a lot heavier and not designed for the track he was riding (an indoor bike parkour course designed by Giant bikes), he still managed to finish in 4th Place. He has assured me he will be back next year with a smaller bike and im sure with his skill he will be taking away the podium gold.
It was this mellow mood and determination we wanted to portray in the images, not being able to ride at full capacity is not holding Tom back from running a coaching business and keeping up training for next years Enduro championships, but with this much passion you could see Tom was missing riding at his full chat.
We shot using a Canon 1Dx with the Canon 85L 1.2, one of my personal favourite lenses for portraits, and also the new Sigma ART 35 1.4 that I am more and more impressed with each time I use it. Lighting was Bowens heads supplied by the studio and my personal Photek Softlighter ii. I will cover more about how I use the Photek and why I selected it over a Octa/Softbox in a future blog post.
