Now, to the networking.
The set up for this shoot photography wise is pretty simple, when shooting portraits I like to make it as simple as possible while still getting the look we set out for. This is mostly to keep the subject from getting overwhelmed. Its more important to have the right subject, and build the connection with them than complicated technical lighting.
You guys don't know Jonathan Lindley, you probably should but he's not one of these guys that shouts loudly about his talent, he's more the shout about others skill kinda guy. He's also a graphic designer, producer, musician and runs Sunbird Records. And to top all that he's one of the most selfless people I know.
When Jonny restarted Sunbird (it was previously set up by his dad) I offered to work with him on any bands he needed images for, It was Today They Are Older that he put me in touch with and we set up the shoot. Jonny will say himself that Darwen doesn't get the most attention in the music scene, and he is out to change that.
The boys had never had a professional shoot before, and were really great to work with because of their excitement. The shoot wasn't without its problems (one of my lights failing due to a bulb blowing and not having a spare) but this didn't stop the guys from working with what we had.
They will be touring this year (after supporting The blackout last year), you should go see them.
What im trying to say is, by surrounding yourself with creatives you meet people who inspire you, and who are up for collaborating. By collaborating with other skill sets you build up your knowledge to take to other shoots.
GET OUT THERE AND SHOOT, CHAT, COLLABORATE AND SHOOT MORE.
