Isn't it strange how technology changes how we connect these days, if it wasn't for mobile phones and twitter/instagram would we still find the same opportunities in life as we do now?
This comes to mind as it was instagram that brought this VW squareback to my attention while it was being built, but more than that, it reconnected me to an old friend. The cars owner was one of my friends when I was a child, it must be almost 20 years since we last saw each other and in the years since he has become quite a VW connoisseur (something he shares with his dad).
Lewis found the car sitting in a garage, having not moved in more years than I have been alive he was impressed with the condition of it and knew it would make the perfect addition to his VW garage. With only one owner from new, and 18,000 miles on the clocks it was a special find.
I followed the build on instagram (@LE_SAV) and me and Lewis messaged about arranging a shoot when Huey (the cars nickname) was complete.
6 months later, a bit of welding, some new wheels and a suspension drop and the car was complete.
We shot the car, shared stories about growing up and cars, crazy dogs (check out Doug Lew's french bulldog on his instagram) and grabbed a beer in the sun. My kind of shoot.
